This was taken overlooking Lake Superior on 12/1/23. The lights were far to the north and low in the horizon; however, the KP index reached ~7, and I was lucky enough to catch the end of that peak with a bit of color.
The human eye cannot see most of what appears in photos as the eye processes light in milliseconds whereas photos such as these may typically take 10-20 seconds to capture the light - a huge difference.
